Using sunscreen daily is a crucial part of any skincare routine recommended by dermatologists. Here are some key points on sunscreen usage:
1) Choose the right sunscreen: Look for a broad-spectrum sunscreen with at least SPF 30. This will protect your skin from both UVA and UVB rays. Look for ingredients like zinc oxide or titanium dioxide that helps to block both UVA and UVB.
The formulation can be selected according to your skin type. In general, choose a lotion for dry or normal skin and a gel for combination to oily skin.
2)Apply generously: Using adequate amounts of sunscreen is just as important as using a sunscreen with high SPF . Use around 2 finger lengths ( index and middle finger full length) of sunscreen for your face and neck and apply it 15-20 minutes before stepping outdoors. Reapply every two-three hours, or more often if swimming or sweating. And don’t forget to apply over your eyelids, nose and ears as well . To protect your lips, choose a lip balm with SPF.
3) Use it every day: UV rays can damage your skin even on cloudy days, so make applying sunscreen a daily habit.
4)Additional protection: Sunscreen is just one part of sun protection. Wear protective clothing, seek shade during peak sun hours, and wear sunglasses to shield your eyes.
Remember, consistent use of sunscreen can help prevent sunburn, premature aging, pigmentation and reduce your risk of skin cancer.
